Originally carved from luminous Carrara white marble, Dissociation embodies both elegance and pain, capturing the paradox of solidity and unraveling within a single form.
The sculpture spirals upward in a sequence of folds and layered ridges all of which connect together, representing the energy and flow in all of us. The "counter" line represents Dissociation--found all-too-often in people with trauma--disrupting the harmonic flow.
Viewed from different angles, the work reveals ever-changing identities: unfurling petals, fabric twisting in motion, the mind in flux.
With Dissociation, I invite contemplation of the multiplicity within selfhood—how memory, identity, and perception can fracture, diverge, and yet remain bound together. The sculpture is rooted and restless, serene and unsettled: a meditation on the delicate tension between presence and absence, connection and disconnection.
Each bronze version of this work expresses new themes based on the original form: a cycle in three parts: confusion, despair, and resolution to march onward.
